The Million Dollar Homepage
MDHP in 5 months!
Have you seen The Million Dollar Homepage yet?
Alex Tew, a 21-year-old from Wiltshire, England, got a unique idea to get people and companies to pay his way through college. He created a grid of 1,000,000 pixels and started selling the spaces for one US dollar each, with a minimum purchase of 100 blocks.
In January, Tew sold the final 1,000 pixel block via an eBay auction. Elijah Kliger of MillionDollarWeightLoss.com won the auction with a bid of $38,100. This brought The Million Dollar Homepage's revenue to $1,037,100 after completing its goal in only five months.
There's no surprise that GoldenPalace.com got in on the action, as their marketing team is genius on getting in on these eccentric but popular events.
This is one of those ideas that somehow worked, and to which everyone thinks, "I should have done that!" Three weeks ago, Blogcritics.org reported that there were more than 10,000 copy-cat pixel advertising sites. No one wants to pass up on the easy money, but few copy-cats will make much money on this endeavor.
