Make-A-Wish: Superhero

29 July 2006

Star talks with the mayor

6-year-old Aubrey wished to be a superhero for a day. Aubrey got her wish over a two day span.

Aubrey found out that someone had stolen the golden star from the state seal in the Idaho Historical Museum. Audrey slipped into her superhero outfit and was transformed into Star. She then took a helicopter ride to the museum. While she sorted through the clues left behind, she also took time to rescue people from a smoke-filled building. Some planted clues led to a family of ferrets, but Star was too smart and she released them after some interrogation!

At noon, Star caught up with the evil villain Black. With the help of fellow superheroes Dog Man, Lion Lady, Sky Girl, Frog Lady, House Lifter, Martian Manhunter and Tree Girl, Black was tied to a replica of the Liberty Bell and captured!

Mayor Beiter swore Aubrey Star in as an honorary Boise police officer. He also proclaimed June 16 as two holidays: Make-A-Wish Day and Star Day! Aubrey then received a custom made police uniform from the chief of police.

Once she arrived home, Batman star Adam West called her and congratulated her on capturing the villain.

A Boise-based production company filmed the entire adventure in order to put together "The Adventure of Star: Episode I," to be released at the Egyptian Theatre in Boise.

Eccentric Holidays

29 July 2006

I've been (slowly) putting together a calendar of eccentric holidays on Google Calendar.

Unfortunately, I haven't come across any eccentric holidays for today, July 29, but here are some from the past couple days and from next week:

  • July 27 was "Take Your Pants for a Walk Day."
  • July 28 was "National Talk in Elevators Day."
  • August 2 is one of the days of "National Dadaism Month." August isn't National Dadaism Month, though — this holiday's month is celebrated on 13 days throughout the year. That's dadaism for you.
  • August 9 is National Underwear Day

If you head to the calendar, each holiday has a brief description and a link to available websites.

The calendar is a bit bare, as I have plenty more work to do on it. To subscribe to the calendar, log into Google Calendar and search for "eccentric holidays." Expect to see the days fill up more and more — The goal is to have at least one holiday on every day of the year!

A Picture of Novac

29 July 2006

Here's a picture of me as a little rascal.

This is a post on behalf of a game right now over at Blogathon.org. I originally wanted to post a picture of me this past January doing the Polar Bear Swim, but I really didn't want to show off my manboobs.

Don't I look like a little stinka'? I only wish that I stopped being so much trouble . . .

And boy, I've gotta get another shirt just like that one! Aww, who am I kidding. It could be worse.

Make-A-Wish: Chairman of Nintendo

29 July 2006

Gregory as chairman

Here's a wish that should be appreciated by video game buffs everywhere.

Gregory, a 10-year-old in western New York, wished to be chairman of Nintendo for a day.

Gregory was flown to Seattle and dressed in a gray power suit. (See the picture for his fancy threads.) When he arrived at Nintendo HQ, he was given a company briefcase. A bit of nepotism soon came into play as his 9-year-old brother was named as Head of Security.

Gregory started working and met with board members. Being such an avid video game buff, he surely had plenty to share. Of course, he also stopped by the game development and testing departments.

Oh, and by the way, being chairman of Nintendo also brings with it partial ownership of the Seattle Mariners. Gregory received a baseball bat signed by Ken Griffey Jr.

Read more about Gregory and his executive career at Make-A-Wish®'s website, wish.org.

Need . . . Sustenance . . .

29 July 2006

The Blogathon has been keeping me so busy that I seem to have forgotten to eat anything since breakfast. That was 8.5 hours ago, so it's time for food.

I don't think that constantly thinking about cereal is helping much, either.

Status: I'm a Hungry, Hungry Hippo. I'm not as hot or sweaty as before, but I'm still a bit unclean. Only 16 hours or so until I can take a shower again.
