I Have Been Counted

Take the MIT Weblog SurveyTake the MIT Weblog Survey

I have taken the "MIT Weblog Survey," and will therefore be included in whatever information they pull out of the survey. The survey is "a general social survey of weblog authors."

The survey takes about 15 minutes to complete, and they are asking anyone with a blog to participate. The larger the sample of individuals they get, the better the results, of course.

So, if you're bored, take the survey. It doesn't even hurt that much. Or don't take the survey. Fine! Be that way!

Who's Your Favorite Philosopher?

17 June 2005

Have you ever wanted to tell everyone who your favorite philospher was? I didn't think so.

Nonetheless, as part of their "In Our Time" program, the BBC is running a vote for the "Greatest Philosopher." They have narrowed the field to twenty philosophers. Vote now in BBC's Greatest Philosopher vote!

Here are the finalists:

  • St Thomas Aquinas
  • Aristotle
  • Rene Descartes
  • Epicurus
  • Martin Heidegger
  • Thomas Hobbes
  • David Hume
  • Immanuel Kant
  • Søren Kierkergaard
  • Karl Marx
  • John Stuart Mill
  • Friedrich Nietzsche
  • Plato
  • Karl Popper
  • Bertrand Russell
  • Jean-Paul Sartre
  • Arthur Schopenhauer
  • Socrates
  • Baruch Spinoza
  • Ludwig Wittgenstein

This vote gave me a refreshing chance to catch up with my college days, as I have a BA in Philosophy. So long as Peter Singer doesn't appear on the list, I'm happy. It's funny to hear people practically campaigning for these long dead philosophers.

Perhaps I'll go home and listen to Monty Python's "Bruces' Philosophers Song."
