If you enjoy Napoleon Dynamite, then you'll like this Robot Chicken sketch titled "Napoleon Bonamite."

[Rod Serling impersonation]: Picture, if you will . . .

. . . cross the two famous Napoleons with each other. Put Napoleon Dynamite in Napoleon Bonaparte's position. What would he do in battle? Watch the video for yourself:

If you can stand this and find it funny, you'll probably like most everything else you see on Robot Chicken. Catch it on weekend late nights on Cartoon Network.

Trailer Tuesday: Date Movie

17 January 2006

This week's trailer is for Date Movie.

If you liked Scary Movie, you'll probably like Date Movie, as it is advertised as "From the 2 of the 6 writers of 'Scary Movie.'" Scary Movie obviously poked fun at the horror movie genre, but you'll never guess which genre of movie Date Movie mocks.

Date Movie stars Alyson Hannigan. If you don't recognize her as Lily from How I Met Your Mother, Willow from Buffy, or at least as Michelle (the "One time, at band camp . . . " girl) from the American Pie trilogy. At first I rolled my eyes to see that it was yet another fat-suit movie, but then I realized that this was a satirical movie, so the fat-suit was really the best path to take.

As shown in the trailer, Date Movie doesn't stop with only date movies. It 0also spoofs popular comedies such as Napoleon Dynamite, Wedding Crashers, and Meet the Fockers.

Watch the trailer or visit the official site.

Napoleon Dynamite Reference in Spelling Bee

12 June 2005

Napoleon DynamiteNapoleon Dynamite

This rules. Dominic Ranz Ebarle Errazo, a 13-year-old from South Carolina, stood up to spell his word in the spelling bee. The word? Chinook . . . but that really doesn't matter.

Errago asked for the definition of the word, and once it was given, he gave a decent Napoleon Dynamite impression and said "Do the chickens have large talons?"

It sounds to me like one of the judges says "We'll check that," followed by (what sounded like) the commentator saying "What was that?" You can hear plenty of discussion from the audience along with one person who actually has a clue give a brief round of appreciation. The commentator then asks "Was that a secret message?"

It's a good thing that Errazo chose the fifth round to make the fun reference, as he went out the following round for missing a simple, common word "nyctapelagic." Everyone knows it's "nyctipelagic!" Errazo ended up tying for 28th place.

Priceless. If I ran this blog for a living, I'd track him down and give him an interview.

Napoleon Dynamite vs. Fender

7 March 2005

Napoleon DynamiteNapoleon Dynamite

Who's the better dancer: Napoleon Dynamite, or Fender (from the movie Robots)? You be the judge!

Be sure to check out the "Napoleon vs. Fender Danceoff: Who's got the skills?" site. Watch a couple clips, and be sure to vote!

The Internet Movie Database has some fun facts regarding Napoleon Dyamite, including:

  • Every dish shown during the opening credits is eaten by a character later in the movie. The dishes presented in the opening credits were the work of the three people who present them.
  • Jon Heder was paid $1,000 to play Napoleon Dynamite. The movie grossed over $40,000,000 in the United States.
  • Jon Heder helped to make the boondoggle keychains between scenes.
  • Jon Heder credits Tina Majorino (Deb) with helping to choreograph the dance scene. He also states that some of the dance moves were "borrowed" from Michael Jackson, Backstreet Boys, John Travolta, Soul Train, as well as some of his own moves.
  • Jon Heder did all of the drawings seen in the film.

My vote goes out to Napoleon Dynamite. He's got skills.

Can you bring me my chapstick?
