Television Tuesday: No Aronofsky-Lost Episode

7 March 2006

Back in November, I posted about Darren Aronofsky's deal to direct an episode of Lost. Unfortunately, Aronofsky had to back out of the agreement.

According to Aronofsky, the breaking off of the contract was amicable, as he is expecting a child with his wife, recent Oscar-winner Rachel Weisz.

Read more details over at EW's Popwatch.

According to EW, Aronofsky is also finishing up his long-awaited movie The Fountain as well as starting work on a new movie called Flicker.

New Tuesday Theme: Television Tuesday

7 March 2006

Here at The Smarmy Carny, I like to have theme days such as Movie Monday and Thilly Thursday. Theme days help keep me focused when I'm drooling on myself, trying to figure out what topic to post on.

After some thought, Movie Monday and Trailer Tuesday were just too repetetive and too close together to work out well. Trailers can be posted just as well on Movie Monday, so I'm making room by merging the two. Besides, I don't have a day set aside for television.

While I would prefer to have my television day on Thursday (after Lost has aired), Tuesday was the best choice. Besides, Thursday starts with "th" and Tuesday starts with a hard "t" sound.

I hope the change is amicable to all. If not, you'll just have to deal with it, or pay me $100 to change it back. Your call.

Feel free to comment with your thoughts, suggestions, or $100+ offers.

Aronofsky to Direct Lost Episode

2 November 2005

I received my Lost Insider e-mail today, and there was one piece of news that caught my eye: Darren Aronofsky, the director of Pi and Requiem for a Dream, has signed on to direct an episode of Lost!

Too bad he wasn't on for the first episode of the second season. I can just see the fast-paced cuts from Requiem seeping into the episode when Desmond shoots whatever-it-is into his arm.

Here's the full quote regarding Aronofsky from the Lost Insider:

One of the more thrilling developments going on around here is that director Darren Aronofsky – the daring visionary behind such films as "Pi" and "Requiem for a Dream" – as well as the upcoming Hugh Jackman/Rachel Weisz sci-fi drama "The Fountain" – has just signed up to direct an episode of "Lost…" and you can bet that the blend of the mystery and drama of "Lost" with the visually innovative style of this maverick filmmaker is going to make for some truly awesome television.

Too bad he won't be directing more than just one episode, though.

There's also an episode coming up titled "The Other 48 Days," which I can only imagine delves into the tailies' experience during the 48 days since the crash. But, with Lost, I could be wrong.

Video Vednesday: Lost Rhapsody

19 October 2005

If you're a fan of Lost, you just might think this video is absolutely hilarious.

This is another one of those flash videos with lip syncing. In it, the characters of Lost lip sync to "Bohemian Polka," Weird Al's version of "Bohemian Rhapsody." According to Newgrounds, it was created by CapnBob. Take a look at "Lost Rhapsody." (Click the link, then click "Play Movie.")

The genius of this video is all the Lost puns that he found in the Bohemian Rhapsody. I was impressed.

The important thing is to give the video at least a minute of your time, since the lack of video editing quality is quickly apparent, but the jokes take a little bit to start up. But then, that's how Bohemian Rhapsody is, too.

If you like the song, you can find it on Weird Al Yankovic's Alapalooza album.

Lost Gnomes

13 October 2005

A Lost gnome?A Lost gnome?

Back in February, I posted a bit about the garden gnome theft adventures that occur around the world. Tonight, I was pleased to see yet another instance of garden gnome theft.

For those who are obsessed with the television series Lost, you are well aware of what I am about to discuss. For those who do not watch Lost, I certainly feel for you. For goodness' sake, go out and buy/rent/borrow the Season One DVDs and catch up to the rest of us. You will thank me later.

So, in a flashback, Hugo/Hurley and his buddy Johnny quit their jobs at a fast-food chicken restaurant. As retaliation, they steal quite a few garden gnomes from around town and spell out "CLUCK YOU" on their ex-manager's lawn.

I'll bet that once ABC gets their picture gallery up from the "Everybody Hates Hugo" episode, I'll link to it if possible, or at least let you know.

As a secondary note, Johnny is played excellently by DJ Qualls, the lanky geek from The New Guy, Road Trip, and Comic Book Villains.
