Subtle Subtitle

27 May 2006

I've decided to change the subtitle/tagline of this blog. Why? Because I finally came up with something that finally makes sense and generally sums up the blog.

Out with the old:
Winning the war against sanity . . . one mind at a time.

. . . and in with the new:
The sound of one hand clapping erasers.

If you have problems with the new tagline, let me know. I'll try to give anyone a prorated refund.

Google Analytics

10 May 2006

I finally received an invitation to Google Analytics!

Google Analytics, much like Performancing Metrics, tells you about how your visitors found you and how they interact with your site.

Google Analytics is on a "sign up and wait" system in order to keep their servers under control. Finally, my number came up.

For many, this allows marketing masterminds to "focus their marketing resources on campaigns and initiatives that deliver ROI, and improve their site to convert more visitors." For me, it just lets me pour over statistics, which I love to do.

Besides, it's always nice to know that people sometimes actually visit the site and read it and click links.

Googlism

30 April 2006

Googlism determines what Google thinks of a person, thing, place, or time. It then returns a list of who/what/when/where something is.

For instance, you can search to see who Google thinks Novac is. Check out the results for Google's answer to "Who is Novac?"

  • Novac is all that and much more
  • Novac is very proud of the many nationally recognized artists and media projects that have been developed at their center
  • Novac is one of the largest clubs in the league
  • Novac is the bounty hunter introduced in the second act hired by peagan for the sole purpose of capturing joy and luring cliff
  • Novac is no ordinary man of wealth
  • Novac is the proud recipient of a 1998 silver georgie award for excellence in a residential renovation under $50
  • Novac is 8
  • Novac is powered by acting world
  • Novac is currently head of the plasma laboratory
  • Novac is a testimony to the nightmare
  • Novac is going through some dramatic rethinking
  • Novac is sworn to secrecy
  • Novac is leading the introduction of the rapid tooling process of sprayforming in europe
  • Novac is suddenly struck by a ricochet and slumps to the floor

Go ahead and find out what Google thinks about you. Your full name may not work, so try your first name as an alternative. Then find out what Google thinks of your friends, your enemies, your hometown, your favorite bands, your favorite restaurants, your favorite foods, etc.

Mission Accomplished: Visit a Windmill Farm

13 April 2006

This post has been re-posted at Random Fodder, Novac's personal blog.

/The windmill farm

Yesterday, I decided to drive a little out of my way to visit the windmill farm and finally fulfill this goal. Unfortunately, it was a bit rainy, but there was also plenty of wind.
To the best of my recollection, this farm had 10 windmills — three on one side of the road and seven on the other.
The trip was nice, though I imagine that a picnic-type adventure in a couple months would have been more enjoyable.

Christian Paid E-mails

8 April 2006

This post has been re-posted at Random Fodder, Novac's personal blog.

This week, I got hooked up with Christian Paid E-mails. CPE is a paid-to-read program with a slightly Christian bent to it.

Christian Paid E-mails is only the second PTR program I have enrolled in. From what I can tell, it isn't much different than other PTR programs, except the Christian part. The site uses CashCrusader, just as many PTR sites are using these days.

The site offers a page detailing how to get saved, and click confirmations say "God Bless You Always." Another nice thing is that you can (assumably) click away without worrying about adult sites being listed, though I have noticed that a high percentage of the sites have the oh-so-annoying and not-so-subtle True girls-in-bikinis-and-lingerie banners that have already overrun Hotmail and MySpace.

Members who sign up at CPE for free can get payouts after earning $20. Sign up now, and you'll get a nice little $1 startup bonus, which is always a treat. (There are optional paid memberships that will get you lower payout rates, additional referral links, etc.)

Of course, you can also earn money from referrals. Be one of my referrals, and I can get more money too. :)

Mission Accomplished: Go on a Second Honeymoon

6 April 2006

My wife and I celebrated our fifth anniversary by taking a brief-but-wonderful 2 day/1 night honeymoon in a city we had never been to as a couple.

We spent a day at a state park, hiking a trail through a gorge that ended at the tallest waterfall in the northeast US. We went to an overpriced restaurant and drank some water before leaving and heading to a more reasonably priced cafe. We visited a museum that was showing Rembrandt's etchings in honor of his 400th birthday this year. We also stopped at a pottery company and toured their production studios.

It doesn't seem like much, I suppose, but having a couple days away from needy children to take a nice trip really is refreshing, and it was a special time for both of us.

In theory, a week-long honeymoon would have been ideal, but due to financial positions as well as our youngest son being less than a year old, we opted for something simple that didn't require a bank loan.

Mission Accomplished: Curb My Road Rage

6 April 2006

I've gone from road rage to road sage.

Granted, I'm not perfect with this now, but I have certainly curbed my road rage. I no longer yell at other drivers for breaking the rules of the road. At worst, I talk gently in their direction, explaining what they did incorrectly.

Whereas I used to quickly get upset over other drivers, I have learned to remain calm and (usually) patient. Other drivers exhibiting road rage merely make me laugh instead of making me furious.

Driving is now less eventful and certainly much less stressful.
