As a Make-A-Wish employee I just want to clarify that it is not a "last wish" - We grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions. Many of these kids go on to lead long & healthy lives. Some become volunteers and others employees. The whole "terminal. last wish idea" is a huge misconception.

I get your point, but your view is a little skewed. Wal-mart isn't telling you that you should bring a big TV into your family, people are telling Wal-mart that. They just respond to customers wants and needs. Watching TV together is what most families do together… and probably while eating. It may be wrong and the opposite of togetherness, but that's what people do. If it was a popular activity to learn words with the family every day, you bet Wal-mart would have a commercial saying "bring your family together by buying our dictionaries." Alas, this is not the case. Wal-mart should not be blamed for the ailments of society. They're a business out to make money. They're not going to to the right thing, ever–no business will. They only do what's profitable, as they should, for otherwise they will go out of business causing people to lose jobs and families to go hungry.

I am one of 200 volunteers who appeared in the winning Springfield Vermont video. After we helped our local Chamber of Commerce win the contest, they turned their backs on us. We should have been the first in town on the invitation list to view the world premiere of The Simpsons Movie but instead our seats were given to the more elite members of the community. And then not even a word of thanks or mention of us in the public ceremony outside the theater. wow, I only raised $33 but at least I have learned a lot from the blogathon. I will be more active in looking for sponsors maybe weeks before blogathon 2008.
